You Are Not Your GPA

If you listen to the media hype, you might think that a high school student with less than straight A’s has no chance of getting into a “good” college. Simply not true! There are plenty of great schools out there that welcome B students into their folds. They know that a GPA and test scores don’t tell the whole story, that there are myriad situations that impact a student’s high school transcript. These colleges assess students on a more holistic basis, looking for individuals most likely to thrive in their school’s particular environment.

Below is a sampling of colleges that are flexible in their admissions policies while providing a first-rate educational experience. According to Petersons.com, the students admitted by these schools fall in the 3.0-3.6 average GPA range. Notice that the schools listed include both private and public colleges and universities, and can be found in all areas of the country.

The first number shown is the average high school GPA for first-year freshmen. Keep in mind that these are only average GPAs—some entering students had higher GPAs and some had lower.
