Cool Programs at Schools You Know Nothing About
It's amazing how many non-traditional programs colleges are offering, if you only know where to look. Here are just a few:
St. John's College-Santa Fe, NM and Annapolis, MD Students read and discuss the great books of Western culture, learn Greek and French, and can toggle between the two campuses.
Olin College-Needham, MA Olin offers an innovative engineering program with a project-based curriculum that culminates in a senior project in which companies hire students as consultants.
Berea College-Berea, KY Their Tuition Promise Scholarship is awarded to all students and, in combination with other financial aid, covers 100% of tuition for four years.
Cornell College-Mount Vernon, IA With an academic year divided in eight terms, students take one course at a time over a 3 1/2 week term.
New College of Florida-Sarasota, FL Students essentially design their own programs. With guidance from faculty advisors, they create written contracts that include personal educational goals, academic activities to reach them, and criteria for measuring success. Professors provide "narrative evaluations" instead of grades.
